Tell us a little about yourself!
I'm an aspiring physician interested in public health and environmental sustainability. This pandemic is affecting me by teaching me that anyone can be helpful in the community during trying times and to not forget to see the light shining through a dark night!
Tell us about your #MakeWaves project.
I'm volunteering for an organization called Shared Harvest Fund.
We are focusing on an initiative called myCovidMD which provides rapid Covid-19 testing to marginalized communities across the greater LA area as well as Queens and Brooklyn, NY and soon Detroit, Houston, and Atlanta.
We're also in the process of providing free tele-health services to the unemployed, uninsured, elderly, and homeless to try and eliminate barriers to care! Location and lack of funding should not be a reason to not seek care when needed! We need to support each other more than ever.
We aim to hold at least 5-7 more pop-up test sites and have already been successful in holding more than 5 test sites! Did I mention we're an all-female, people-of-color non-profit?
We're making huge strides and we'd love your support!
Who inspired you?
The elderly population, as well as the uninsured, unemployed, and homeless. Really, anyone in marginalized communities!
Our founder, NanaEfua Afoh-Manin also inspires me! She's a community-centered emergency doctor, social entrepreneur, and humanitarian disaster relief consultant with an extensive track record of being a champion for equity in higher education! She and three other female physicians saw the need to jump into the community and help out during this crisis!
We appreciate ANY and all funding! Every single cent counts, and we are very thankful for any and all support! We hope to continue serving marginalized communities across the United States, especially during these daunting times!
Your message to the community:
During these trying times, we must be able to count on each other for support. Thank you to everyone who has contributed any form of assistance against Covid-19! Together, we can build an even stronger community.
From us at Shared Harvest Fund, thank you.
