Supporting Tennessee Women in Green

Renee, Tennesee

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi! I'm currently serving as the Vice President on the all-volunteer board of nonprofit Tennessee Women In Green (TWIG). Our mission is to empower, inspire, and connect women committed to sustainability.

The main avenues we achieve this are a monthly meeting with networking time and a local speaker that shares their sustainability journey and their current role in the field, whether that be in government work, private consulting, nonprofit, retail, hospitality...the list goes on and on! We also offer a large scholarship fund for our members to pursue continuing education, including conferences, local events, university courses, or other informative opportunities. Not only do we focus on our members, we also give back to our Nashville community by volunteering with other nonprofits.

During COVID-19, we have seen a drop in sponsorships as businesses focus on their own response due to the pandemic. Without sponsorships it is difficult to offer scholarships, pay for meeting space, and plan more events outside of the monthly meetings (to be offered once we can meet in person again).

We have heard from our members that our meetings are the "light" of their month and motivate them to live more sustainably until we meet again. We do not want to go completely dark during this time and are exploring ways to virtually support our membership base.

Tell us about your #MakeWaves project.
We want to support our membership base with more virtual events, especially our monthly meetings and volunteer opportunities.

As a small nonprofit with an all-volunteer board, we are seeking funds to support the purchase of virtual conferencing apps that are made with networking in mind, such as Remo. We will also use funds as a part of our reach-out effort to our current and past sponsors and members. We do not want to ask for money from them in a time like this as many are unable to donate, but we also do not want to lose the connection we have. A mailed letter or small gift in the mail will help us maintain that connection.

We want to be an inspiring example for our members to look forward to and keep us all connected during a time where connection is hard.

Who inspired you?

Our Nashville community and our membership base of about 200 people. "We are inspired by our speakers who are from all different kinds of backgrounds that are pursuing sustainability in their lives in many different ways. We are grateful for our members who continue to support us.

Pivoting to a virtual version of TWIG will help use serve our community by providing opportunity to empower, inspire, and connect during a dark and uncertain time."

We are so grateful for this opportunity! Thank you so much for giving back to communities!

Your message to the community:
It's so important to stay connected to each other during this time. We hope to reach all of our members and sponsors with sustainability resources and help empower, inspire, and connect during this time of uncertainty. Thank you so much Vessi!

Say hi to Tennessee Women in Green!
